China Rongsheng Heavy awarded "Seatrade Global Performer 2012"
China Rongsheng Heavy Industries Group Holdings Limited (“China Rongsheng Heavy Industries” or the “Group”; stock code: 01101.HK) today announced that it has garnered the “Seatrade Global Performer 2012” presented by Seatrade, a leading global maritime magazine, in recognition of the Group’s contribution to the shipping industry. The citation for the award also acknowledged the Group’s astonishing growth within six years since its establishment, in particular its outstanding performance amidst subdued global shipbuilding market condition during 2011, the shipbuilder's press release said.
The Annual Seatrade Awards was held in London on 14 May and attended by 350 guests from around the world. China Rongsheng Heavy Industries, a privately owned enterprise from China, was awarded the “Seatrade Global Performer 2012” on the ceremony.
Mr. Luan Xiao Ming, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of China Rongsheng Heavy Industries, received the award on behalf of the Group. Mr. Luan said, “China Rongsheng Heavy Industries was very honoured to receive this prestigious global award, which demonstrated wide recognition of the global maritime industry of China Rongsheng Heavy Industries’ success. This is the latest award from Seatrade to the Group on top of the “Deal of The Year” at the 2009 Seatrade Asia Award, “The Shipbuilding Award” in 2010 and “The Shipbuilding Award” and “Personality of the Year” for Mr. Chen Qiang, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the Group, in 2011.
In 2011, the global shipbuilding industry encountered a severe downturn because of the economic uncertainties created by the Eurozone debt crisis. The Group’s responsive measures to counter the challenge by developing environmentally friendly vessels to meet international demand have paid off in a steady growth of business. As at 31 December 2011, the number of new orders of China Rongsheng Heavy Industries for the year ranked first in China and third globally, occupying 15.6% of total new shipbuilding orders in China and 7.2% of those around the world. China Rongsheng Heavy Industries has grown rapidly within six years since its inception. The Group ranked the first with shipbuilding industry in China in terms of new orders for three consecutive years between 2009 and 2011 and its global ranking in terms of orders on hand has also kept rising.
Seatrade holds the award presentation ceremony in different places around the world every year to recognise organisations and individuals with outstanding achievements in the shipping and shipbuilding industries and related marine services. The Seatrade Awards have become one of the most prestigious prizes in the global marine industry, attracting entries of many industry players every year. This year’s event was graced by the members of the royal family and senior government officials from the United Kingdom, the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation and representatives from major international maritime organisations. Among the attending officers were the International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners, the International Tanker Owner's Association, the International Association of Classification Societies and The Baltic and International Maritime Council.
