Severstal eyeing container business development on the basis of Neva-Metal
Severstal does not rule out the possibility of container business development on the basis of St. Petersburg stevedoring company Neva-Metal, Severstal reports.
In 2009, the company is to focus on further development of container business and to increase transshipment volume to 60,000 containers, or 100,000 TEU having preserved the capacity to accept and ship ferrous metal.
“The development of container business is among the projects under consideration (Severstal’ enterprise Neva-Metal) and other projects,” the company’s press center says.
According to the source, other new projects will be determined by a number of factors including the results of survey work.
In 2008, throughput of Neva-Metal, which is a part of the service segment of Severstal Rossiyskaya Stal, amounted to 1.9 million tonnes (+5.6%, year-on-year).
