Port of Helsinki cargo traffic down 28 % to 1.34m tons in January-February
The Finnish Port of Helsinki says that the economic downturn is reflected in its traffic volumes. Unitised cargo traffic was 1.34m tons in January and February, a decrease of 28 % compared to last year. Container throughput was 59,000 TEU, with units decreasing by 16 % and cargo decreasing by 24 %. The number of rubber-wheeled units was 68,000, the number of vehicles decreased by 22% and the amount of cargo decreased by 28 %.
On average, the port says,traffic in the Port of Helsinki has decreased a little less than the traffic in other Finnish Portsmouth port has also announced it 2008 financial results with turnover almost flat at euros95.4m, an increase of euros0.4m from the previous year. The small increase was, according tot he port, “ mainly a result of a rise in premium income generated by the growth in passenger and ship traffic and the growth in sideline cost and fee contracts”. The port saw its business surplus fall by euros2.5m, to euros39.4m.
