Ro-Ro terminal of First Stevedoring Company (Saint Petersburg seaport) accepts first vessel
The first vessel called on the Ro-Ro terminal of First Stevedoring Company (Sea Port of Saint Petersburg) on April 1, the Group’s press center reports. First Stevedoring Company handled some 90 trailers totaling 3,000 tonnes from the TransEurope vessel.
Ro-Ro terminal is a project successfully implemented within the framework of a Program on the development of Sea Port of Saint Petersburg.
Some RUR 780 mln was spent for design, construction and reconstruction of the infrastructure of the terminal’s first phase.
The terminal with a production capacity of 1 million tonnes per year is capable of handling all types of Ro-Ro cargo: passenger cars, trailers, highway freighters, trailer trains, wheeled and tracked equipment, which are taken away via check-point by automobile or railway transport.
The capacity of the terminal’s warehouse storage space (152,000 sq. km of open space and 8,000 sq. km of covered space) is some 3,000 units.
Regular calls of the TransEurope ferries on the ro-ro terminal will ensure the volume of ro-ro cargo of about 400,000 tonnes in 2009.
It should be noted that the Program development of St. Petersburg seaport envisages expansion of the transshipment capacity to 20 million tonnes per year through construction of specialized terminals on transshipment of containers and refrigerated cargo as well as development of the implemented projects.
In May 2008, Third Stevedoring Company put into operation the first phase of the automobile terminal capable of handling 80,000 automobiles per year.
Multipurpose Transshipment Complex in Ust-Luga capable of handling 3 million tonnes of cargo per year was put into operation in January 2009.
