Wadan Yards Оkean to build 24 sea-and-river going barges for Nibulon Ltd. (Ukraine)

Nibulon Ltd. (Ukraine) has signed a contract with Wadan Yards Оkean for construction of 24 sea-and-river going barges, press center of Nibulon Ltd. reports.

In 2009, Nibulon Ltd. started implementation of an investment project on construction of 7 elevators with total capacity exceeding 250,000 tonnes, creation of its own fleet with total deadweight of 100,000 tonnes and construction of tugboats. The project is valued at $150 mln.

Some 23,500 tonnes of marine steel is required to build 24 barges. It is enough to build two Panamax vessels. Each barge will be 90 m long.

The metal will be supplied by Ukrainian metallurgical companies from Donetsk and Lugansk regions – Kramatorski and Alchevski plants as well as Azovstal.

Within the framework of the project there is a plan to build river terminals and barges as well as to buy and build tugboats (all in all 14 river and sea tugboats).

Implementation of this project will revive Dnepropetrovsk transport hub and the Dnepr river as Ukraine’s transport route, the company thinks. Those barges can transport cargo by Dnepr, Danube and along the costs of the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea.

Expected transportation of grain is to exceed 1 million tonnes per year. The fleet operation will also make it possible to carry containers by river with a potential amounting to 18,000 TEU.

Nibulon Ltd. (Nikolayev, Ukraine) is one of the largest national producers and exporters of agricultural products and a stevedoring company.

Wadan Yards Оkean OJSC (former Оkean shipyard) specializes in production and repair of container carriers, tankers, tug boats and barges of up to 350,000 tonnes in deadweight.
