In the first quarter of 2009, the ports of Azov-and-Don Basin handled 1.781 million tonnes of cargo (+23.6%, year-on-year), Azov-and-Don Basin Administration reports according to RZD-Partner.
Export of agricultural goods via the Basin’s ports increased 3.2 times to 1.207 mln t, while transshipment of other cargoes decreased in Q1 09. For example export of scrap metal fell 11.6 times, Kuzbass coal – by 47.1%, the report reads.
The length of waterways within the competence of the Azov-and-Don Basin Administration is 800 kilometers.
