In the first quarter of 2009, the port of Archangelsk handled 740,288 tonnes of cargo (-34.7%, year-on-year), the port informs. In the reported period, the port accepted 154,416 tonnes of cargo (+61%, year-on-year) including 102,800 tonnes of import cargo (+77.6%). Transshipment of imported containerized cargo fell by 70.5% to 3,325 tonnes, machines and equipment were not handed this year (against 2,380 tonnes in 2008), other general cargo – up 3.67 times to 47,530 tonnes, ferrous metal – up by 66% to 51,936 tonnes.
Transshipment of incoming coastal trade cargo increased by 36.1% to 51,624 tonnes including 8,938 tonnes of containerized cargo (up 11 times), other general cargo – to 42,685 tonnes (+14.8%).
In the 3-month period the port dispatched 585,872 tonnes of cargo (-43.5%, year-on-year) including 172,319 tonnes of export cargo (-59.2%). Export of paper and cardboard fell by 54.7% to 4,188 tonnes, timber – by 41.7% to 75,300 tonnes, loaded containers – by 74.6% to 2,424 tonnes, scrap metal – by 72.1% to 4,614 tonnes, oil products – by 60% to 33,800 tonnes, ferrous metal, coke and coal were not handled in 2009 (against 2,119 tonnes and 139,325 tonnes in Jan-March 08). Transshipment of export cellulose increased by 10.3% to 32,470 tonnes, other general cargo – 6.7 times to 19,513 tonnes.
Transshipment of outgoing coastal trade cargo fell by 32.7% to 413,553 tonnes including 2,481 tonnes of machines and equipment (-46.7%), 14,000 tonnes of loaded containers (up over 2-fold), 29,896 tonnes of other general cargo (-5%), 342,565 tonnes of oil products (-38%).
