Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has announced in the State Duma that in 2009 the Government of the Russian Federation will increase funding for transport infrastructure development by 100 billion roubles, in comparison to the previous year, Interfax reports according to RZD-Partner.
312 billion roubles is included for the development of motorways (in comparison to 294 billion roubles allocated in 2008).
Several new programs will begin. Putin cited the programmes to update public transport and the power structure automobile fleet as examples. "Together with regional financing, 42.5 billion roubles will be allocated for these purposes," said the Prime-Minister, pointing out that these measures were meant to support domestic manufacturers.
