He did so in his welcome speech to the Chinese Minister of Transport, Mr LI Shenglin, visiting Rotterdam last week.
“The current global crisis faces us with challenges that can only be overcome if we join forces. I believe that the Netherlands and China should become close allies in international trade. We both believe that international trade should be given a boost as quickly as possible to reverse the current decline in world trade. For example by rejecting all forms of protectionism and by improving the (practical) conditions for international trade”, Mr Smit said.
