DP World signs deal to improve fire safety at UAE terminals

DP World, the global terminal operating arm of Dubai World, has signed an agreement with Imdaad, an integrated facility management solutions provider, to provide comprehensive maintenance services for fire-fighting systems at DP World's UAE terminals in Dubai. According to the deal, Imdaad will be in charge of total maintenance of UAE region's fire-fighting systems that include fire extinguishers, fire pumps (electric and diesel), fire hydrants, sprinkler systems, hose reels, and concealed network of pipes, with all accessories and associated controls.
The deal was signed by Jamal Abdullah Lootah, Chief Executive Officer of Imdaad, and Abdulla Yousuf Khalfan, Director, Procurement and Material Management of DP World, UAE.
"Safety at our terminals is a priority and DP World, UAE Region is constantly looking to enhance the efficiency of its facilities to ensure safety," said Khalfan.
"The deal with Imdaad will exploit their expertise in facilities management and track record in fire safety to ensure that our operations are not affected."
Imdaad's team of experts will work with DP World to help recognise and execute strategic solutions designed to streamline the operation of their facilities.
"High quality maintenance of fire-fighting systems is crucial to ensuring the safety and environmental integrity of ports and particularly oil tanker berths. Imdaad is committed to delivering the excellence, harmonisation and consistent application of professional standards that are expected," said Lootah.
Last week, DP World also announced the introduction of the Remote Reefer Container Monitoring System or Refcon at its Jebel Ali Port. Refcon enables port operators to respond quickly to emergencies and eliminate idle periods. Any temperature problems or other irregularities within a refrigerated container or reefer, triggers an alarm in the terminals control office, which then sends a mechanic to investigate.
DP World said the technology will help it satisfy its customer's requirements and assure a high standard of operation.
