Ukraine restores its preference for sea containers
The Ukrainian Ministry of Transport and Communication has restored the order granting discounts to sea container lines working through their ports.
"We have restored the registration of lines, which enables them to receive a discount. Such registrations were cancelled earlier for some reason,", - 1-st Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication of Ukraine, Vladimir Rabotnev, declared according to RZD-Partner.
Explaining the restored order, this official explained how the order works: "A Working line submits an application, the management of the port confirms the arrival of ships, and on this basis a discount is given. We have restored this order to all those Lines that have submitted applications".
According to Vladimir Rabotnev, 12 container lines have already received their “propiska” (“registration”) in the port of Odessa.
Before the order was restored, 11 container lines, including 5 in Odessa, 4 in Ilyichevsk and 1 in Mariupol were registered in Mintranssviaz of Ukraine. Currently up to 30 lines and joint services work through the Port of Odessa and about 10 through Ilyichevsk. More than fifteen of the largest linear representatives operate in Ukrainian ports with a turnover of more than 15 thousand TEU a year.
Maersk Sealand Line has also been registered as working through Odessa and Ilyichevsk. In fact, quite a few lines, including the largest carriers work through both these ports. These include CMA CGM, ZIM, CSAV Norasia and MSC.
