New Bahrain container terminal gets first boxship
Brand new Bahrain Gateway container terminal at Khalifa Bin Salman Port celebrated its first call this week by a container ship, the 2,500-TEU APL Dalian. The vessel is on APL’s SRX rotation between the Indian sub-continent and the Lower Red Sea.
The APM Terminals controlled facility has four new post-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes with twin-lift capabilities and a lifting capacity of 61 metric tons along with 12 rubber-tire gantry cranes to support the yard operations.
The new facility is taking over from the old terminal of Mina Salman with the latter ceasing operations as a commercial port on May 1.
