Ukraine’s transport companies cut cargo transportation 32.9% to 153 mln t in Q1 09

In the first quarter of 2009 Ukraine’s transport companies carried 153 million tonnes of cargo (67.1% of the volume transported in the first quarter of 2008), Ukrainian State Statistics Committee states according to RBC.

Sea and river commercial fleet of Ukraine carried 1.6 million tonnes of cargo (42.5% of volume transported in January-March 2008. Transportation of foreign trade cargo by sea transport fell by 54.0%, river transport – by 57.7%. Throughput of commercial and fishing ports and terminal fell by 8.2% to 37.9 million tonnes. Transshipment of import cargo fell by 57.0%, transit – by 14.1% coastal trade cargo – by 51.7%. Transshipment of export increased by 20.8%. In the reported period, cargo turnover  reached 80.1 bln t-km (62.6% of January-March 2008).
