RF Transport Ministry supports idea to let foreign vessels pass through Russian inland waterways
The RF Transport Ministry supports the idea to provide the admittance of foreign vessels into Russian inland waterways, said Russian Transport Minister Igor Levitin during “Governmental Hour” in Duma, PRIME-TASS has reported according to RZD-Partner.
"We think that our internal waterways can be opened and free for navigation," he noted. However, according to the Minister, in order to achieve this, “a number of measures should be undertaken, the first being internal waterways reform."
Levitin also noted that The Transport Ministry is currently authorized to admit only some vessels operating under foreign flags to move through Russian internal waterways. "But we are setting the goal in government to develop the necessary legal documentation before 2015 to provide for the admission of all foreign vessels in internal waterways,” said the Minister.
