In the first quarter of 2009, fitting platforms of TransContainer JSC carried 300,000 TEU (-12%, year-on-year). Fitting platforms of other operators carried 145,000 TEU (-36%, year-on-year), Petr Baskakov, the company’s Director General, said at the meeting with the heads of TransContainer subsidiaries.
According to him, the company’s share in Russia’s total rail container freight volume increased from 60% to 67%.
In the reported period, the company increased its fleet with 4 hundred 40-feet containers and one hundred 80-feet platforms.
In the first quarter of 2009 the mean speed across Russia doubled to 971 km per day.
TransContainer JSC operates as a subsidiary of Russian Railways OJSC from July 2006. The company owns 47 terminals in Russia’s major freight centres, with its 17 branches covering the entire Russian railway network. Furthermore, TransContainer is the largest owner of specialized rolling stock in Russia, the CIS countries, and the Baltics: it has more than 24,000 fitting platforms and more than 53,000 large-capacity containers. In 2008, RAS net profit of TransContainer amounted to RUR 2.7 bln. In 2008, fitting platforms of TransContainer carried 1.5 mln TEU (+7%, year-on-year).
