"K" Line and TSK merge services between Japan and Southeast Asia

Japanese ocean carriers “K” Line and TSK are merging their individual services between Japan and Southeast Asia into a single service.
From mid-May, the services will be merged and capacity cut “in response to the ongoing financial crisis that has drastically reduced cargo volume for this sector,” the lines said. In the interim, the lines said they would exchange slots on each other’s individual services.
When the joint service begins, it will deploy four 1,700-TEU vessels on a weekly service with a 28-day round trip voyage. Both carriers will provide two vessels.
The port rotation will be: Osaka, Shimizu, Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Kobe, Keelung, Manila, Singapore, Port Klang, Jakarta, Singapore, Manila and Osaka.
Meanwhile, "K" Line has received an award for its contribution on behalf of environmental conservation during 2008 by the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners that has been promoting a voluntary ship speed reduction program to aid in curbing air pollution from exhaust gas in certain designated offshore waters.
This is the 4th consecutive year that "K" LINE has had the distinction of being honored with receipt of this prestigious award for the protection of the environment.
This is an entirely voluntary program in which ships calling at the Port are asked to observe a 12-knot speed limit within 20 miles of the Port (about 37 kilometers) in order to curb emissions of exhaust gas.
Ships operated by the "K" LINE Group made a total of 317 callings at Port of Long Beach with a 98.8% compliance rate during 2008, which is the highest among all ocean-going cargo carriers with more than 250 calls during 2008.
This recognition is another example of how firmly committed the "K" LINE Group is to continuously exert ceaseless efforts for achieving each environmental preservation goal defined in our own company program, as well as being evidence as to how strongly determined our company is to fully cooperate with environmental preservation efforts carried out by other parties such as the Port of Long Beach in order to contribute to environmental preservation of our earth’s limited resources.
