Azerbaijan returns attached Sarmat-1 vessel to Russia

The Russian vessel Sarmat-1, owned by Navigator Company, was released and retuned back, Maritime Security Chef of the Azerbaijan State Maritime Administration Vamik Rahimov told APA.
Rahimov said the Navigator Company negotiated the issue with the Caspian Oil Fleet of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and compensated the rescue expenditures. The attachment was removed by the decision of the 2nd Local Economic Court of Baku on April 17 and the vessel was sent to Russia.
Russian dry-cargo vessel Sarmat-1, floating from the Astrakhan, Russia toward the Iran’s port of Enzali, was in danger of sinking near the Absheron Bay of Azerbaijan, because the steering room was filled with water coming through smashed splashboard. The vessel was towed to Bayil Shipyard in Baku on December 15 by the SOCAR’s vessel of Vadim Seyidov at request of the Astrakhan Port Administration Maritime Rescue Center and Navigator Company. The 2nd Local Economic Court of Baku issued a statement of arrest on the vessel because they didn’t compensate the rescue costs.
