Cochin port cargo throughput down to 15.23 million tonnes in fin 2008-09
The Cochin port handled 15.23 million tonnes of cargo during the financial year 2008 to 2009 from the 15.75 million tonnes in the previous year, registering a marginal fall of 3.3 percent, the Hindu reported.
The shortfall is mainly attributable to a fall in the uptake of crude oil by the Kochi Refinery, which imported 82,11,820 tonnes of crude during the year ended 2008 to 2009 as against 87,55,916 tonnes in the previous year, registering a shortfall of 5,44,096 tonnes.
