Freight One to cut transportation of Siberian timber to Novorossiysk to 7 days
JSC Freight One, subsidiary of Russian Railways has commenced implementation of the project on faster transportation of export timber from Siberia to the port of Novorossiysk, RIA Novosti reports. The distance of almost 5,000 km from Lesosibirsk to Novorossiysk will be covered by the company’s trains in 7 days which is cut by a half. Timber will then transloaded to the ships in the port of Novorossiysk for further transportation to Mediterranean countries.
The first train loaded with 4,000 cubic meters of packaged timber has already left for Novorossiysk. The next train is to leave Lesosibirsk within the following day. All in all, Freight One plans to send 6 trains of this type and transport at least 24,000 cubic meters of timber.
JSC Freight One is Russia’s largest rail transport operator. The main founder and owner of Freight One ordinary shares is JSC Russian Railways (RZD). The non-commercial organization Zheldorreform as a co-founder owns one ordinary share in the company.
Freight One was created in July 2007 and independently began to manage the carriage stock in November of the same year. Currently Freight One owns more than 200,000 units of rolling stock of various types (75,000 tanks, 47,000 gondolas, 15,000 platforms, 14,300 box cars and about 49,000 other cars). The company’s share of all rolling stock in the Russian Federation is 21%.
