Nikolayev port (Ukraine) to increase investment in port development by 50% to UAH 33 mln
In 2009, Nikolayev commercial seaport (Ukraine) plans to increase its own investment into the port development by 50% to UAH 33 mln, the port’s Chief Economist Yuliya Shulepa is cited by UNIAN. In, the company’s own investments amounted to UAH 22.5 mln.
In the first quarter of 2009, the port invested UAH 6.1 mln in its development (6 times as much as in the first quarter of 2008).
In particular, UAH 5 mln of the company’s own resources are to be invested in reconstruction of the first and the second berths, purchase of at least 5 crabes for some EUR 4 mln each. After the reconstruction the berths will be capable of handling 3 million tonnes of cargo per year.
Besides, the grain terminal is to be reconstructed this year to raise its capacity to 2 million tonnes of grain per year. The port is also eyeing reconstruction of the 15th berth for transshipment of liquid bulk cargo.
In 2008 the port handled 9.255 million tonnes of cargo.
