In the first quarter of 2009, stevedoring companies of the Leningrad region operating within the water area of the Gulf of Finland handled 25.2 million tonnes of cargo (+4.2%, year-on-year), Information Department of the regional government reports.
The majority of cargo was handled by port Primorsk which exported 19.2 million tonnes of crude and oil products (+6.4%, year-on-year).
The port of Ust-Luga increased the throughput by 14.8%, year-on-year, to 1.8 million tonnes including 1.5 million tonnes of coal (+9.3%) and 70,400 tonnes of timber. Automobile-and-ferry complex handled 5 times as much general cargo as in the same period of the previous year (179,500 tonnes). Universal handling complex handled 75,800 tonnes of metal (up 6.4 times), multi-functional transshipment complex - 7,600 tonnes of ro-ro cargo.
Port Vysotsk handled some 3.9 million tonnes f cargo, port Vyborg – 249,000 tonnes (+12%, year-on-year).
