Yamal-Arctic 2013 completes expedition part of project

The scientific and research ship Professor Molchanov has completed the expedition part of the comprehensive scientific and research project Yamal-Arctic 2013 organized by the Government of the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district (YNAD), Regional Innovative Investment Fund Yamal and the Arctic and Antarctic Reserch Institute (AARI) of the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (RosGidroMet), says the press center of YNAD Governor. The expedition was carried out under the agreement between the RosGidroMet and YANAD Government.

The expedition commenced on August 20, 2013. It covered 6,654 nautical miles in the water areas of the Kara Sea, Obskaya/Gydanskaya/Baidaratskaya Bays, around Gydan peninsula, etc. The expedition numbered 60 members including 40 scientists from AARI, Institute of Geophysics of the Ural Branch of Russian Academy of Science, Saint Petersburg State University, Institute of Physicochemical and Biological Problems of Soil Sciences, Russian Academy of Sciences, Bioecology Institute of of the Ural Branch of Russian Academy of Science, ANAD Scientific Center for Arctic Research and other organizations.

The purpose of the expedition was to obtain comprehensive information about the state and the changes in the natural environment of the YNAD and adjacent water bodies amid intense business development and climate changes.

The strategic aim of the Yamal-Arctic 2013 is to provide scientific background to the comprehensive development of the Arctic region in compliance with the state policy of the Russian Federation.
