Persons involved in criminal case over attack on Prirazlomnaya platform accused of piracy
The department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Northwestern Federal District has brought charges against 30 persons involved in the criminal case over the attack on Prirazlomnaya oil platform. According to the Committee’s statement, all of them are accused of committing an offence under part 3 of article 227 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (complex piracy). The accused persons do not admit their guilt and currently refuse to testify.
The investigation is being continued.
On September 18, 2013, the Arctic Sunrise approached the Prirazlomnaya oil platform and the activists tried to climb onto the platform. Their attempt was stopped by a task force of the FSB border service, then the vessel the was tugged to Murmansk. A criminal case was initiated and 30 crewmembers of the Arctic Sunrise, citizens of 19 countries, were detained.
