Arctic Sunrise can sink in Murmansk, Greenpeace says (photo)
Greenpeace vessel Arctic Sunrise delivered to Murmansk after its crew was detained by Russian security forces in the Barents Sea, can sink in Murmansk. According to Greenpeace statement, on October 4, 2013, the investigators urgently delivered the detained machine operators to the icebreaker for vessel examination.
Greenpeace lawyers have obtained a document with the list of technical problems enumerated by the machine operators. Thos problems can lead to vessel sinking. If the Arctic Sunrise sinks, it can result in a severe contamination of the Kola Bay. The icebreaker meets all safety requirements but needs to be supervised by qualified personnel as any other vessel. As long as the vessel is under control of the coast guard, nothing happens, Greenpeace says in its statement.
