Russian crane manufacturer SMM CJSC has completed a unique loading operation in port Ust-Luga, the company announced.

Four multipurpose gantry cranes Vityaz designed, produced and assembled by the company specialists have been dispatched to port Rajin (eastern coast of Korean Department) under agreement signed between SMM CJSC and JV RasonConTrans.

Fully assembled cranes with maximum lifting capacity of 80 tonnes and maximum reach of 40 m were loaded at the berths of Ust-Luga container terminal to the Ноng Kоng ship dedicated for transportation of oversized and project cargoes. All 54-meter high cranes weighing 440 tonnes reached the loading site by the terminal’s craneways.

Vityaz cranes were listed onboard the vessel by two cranes with aggregate capacity of 800 tonnes and placed onto the rails on the vessel's deck.

Estimated time of delivery from port Ust-Luga to port Rajin is 28 days.

The cranes are intended for deployment at the terminal with annual throughput capacity 4 mln t, the construction of which is nearing construction. The project commenced in 2008 with the agreement signed between Russian Railways and Korean Ministry of Railways on cooperation and establishment of a joint venture RasonConTrans (Russia controls 70% of the JV, Korean Republic - 30%).

The project implementation started in 2009. It implies the reconstruction of a railway from the border of the Russian Federation to port Rajin (54 km) as well as the construction of a cargo terminal in the port.

“The launch of the railway and the port terminal is to be a part of a project on restoration of traffic at the entire Trans-Korean Railway with a prospect to deliver a large part of cargo flowing from S. Korea to Europe/Russia/CIS and backwards by Trans-Siberian Railway,” the statement says.

Ust-Luga container terminal provided considerable assistance in the project implementation.

Cranes manufactured by SMM CJSC are operated at ports and terminals of Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and EU countries.
