On October 24, CJSC Investments, Engineering, Construction. (IEC, contractor for Reconstruction of Saint-Petersburg Seaway Canal) released 9,110 fingerlings of Ladoga speckled trout in Priozersk district of the Leningrad region to compensate the damage of aquatic biological resources and their environment caused by dredging operations under the project on reconstruction of Saint-Petersburg Seaway Canal.
Under the order of IEC, the work on artificial reproduction of Ladoga speckled trout is being implemented by the Federal Genetic Selective Fishery Center located in Ropsha (FGSFC, Leningrad region).
Ladoga speckled trout is a cold water fish, that is why it is more widespread in large deep-water bodies where cold water (10—12°С) is available even in summer.
Ropsha has been a fishery center from 18th century. The Federal Genetic Selective Fishery Center appeared their in 1993. State-of-the-art equipment allows working with different types of fish but is specializes on salmon, mainly Caspian salmon and Ladoga speckled trout. The specification and the capacity of the Center facilities allow prompt and high-quality implementation of work on reproduction of aquatic biological resources.
