Two non-Unifeeder vessels collide in the Kiel Canal

A combination of the storm passing Northern Europe yesterday and today and a closing of the Kiel Canal has a severe, negative effect on Unifeeder ability to deliver as scheduled, the company said in its press release.
In the early hours of 28th October, two non-Unifeeder vessels collided in the Kiel Canal, leaving one of them severely damaged and in danger of sinking. All personnel are safe but the Canal was closed and at this moment we still do not have any information as to when it is expected to re-open. Unifeeder are currently routing our vessels via Skaw, which, under normal circumstances, will mean a delay of between 32 and 50 hours per voyage depending on destination. However, with the aftermath of the gale still blowing in the North Sea, the delays will be even worse.
The storm yesterday closed almost all terminals on the Continent and in the UK and as it is moving east, it is today creating closures and delays in the Baltic States.
These two incidents are regrettably causing delays on a large number of our services; details on individual vessels will be communicated by Unifeeder local offices.
