In January-May 2014, the port of Helsinki (Finland) handled 4.2 mln t of cargo (+4%, year-on-year), the port authority says. According to the statement, import totaled 2 mln t (+1%), export – 2.2 mln t (+7%).
In the 5-month period, the port’s passenger turnover increased by almost 2%, year-on-year, to 3.9 mln persons with the highest growth registered at Helsinki-Tallinn service.
In May, throughput climbed to over 0.9 mln t (+8%). Export and import which accounted for 50% each increased by 9% and 7% respectively. Over the past month the port serviced 966,000 passengers (+1%, year-on-year).
The Port of Helsinki is one of the largest ports in Finland, the largest passenger port and the third largest in the Baltic Sea. The port accounts for 77% of passenger traffic in Finland.
