Throughput of Russian seaports up 6.7% to 251.7 mln t in Jan-May’14

In January-May 2014, Russian seaports handled 251.7 mln t of cargo (+6.7%, year-on-year), says press center of Association of Commercial Sea Ports.

Transshipment of dry bulk cargo totaled 111.9 mln t (+13.9%) including 46.1 mln t of coal (+15.7%), 19.5 mln t  of containerized cargo (+8.1%), 10.3 mln t of ferrous metal (+3.3%), 9.0 mln t of grain (up 3.9 times), 5.9 mln t of mineral fertilizers (+20.5%), 2.9 mln t of cargo carried by ferries (+10.1%), 2.0 mln t of scrap metal (+44.1%) and 2.0 mln t of timber (+2.0%). Transshipment of ore fell to 2.4 mln t (-18.7%), non-ferrous metals – to 1.3 mln t (-21.7%).

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo hit 139.8 mln t (+1.5%) including 81.0 mln t of crude oil (-7.4%), 51.7 mln t of oil products (+17.1%) and 5.5 mln t of liquefied gas (+11.5%).

Transshipment of export cargo totaled 202.6 mln t (+9.2%, year-on-year), import - 17.9 mln t (-7.6%), transit - 20.6 mln t (+10.7%), coastal trade cargo - 10.6 mln t (-14.4%).

Operators of the Arctic Basin terminals handled 14.2 mln t (-24.0%, year-on-year) including 10.3 mln t of dry cargo (+8.2%), 3.9 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (down 2.3 times). The port of Murmansk handled 9.6 mln t (-21.8%), Arkhangelsk - 1.5 mln t (-17.7%), Varandey - 2.4 mln t (+10.9%).

The ports of the Baltic Basin handled 91.9 mln t (+4.5%) including 35.9 mln t of dry cargo (+9.1%), 56.0 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+1.8%). The port of Ust-Luga handled 30.1 mln t of cargo (+25.9%), Big Port St. Petersburg - 24.5 mln t (+10.9%), Vysotsk - 7.0 mln t (+5.7%), Vyborg - 0.66 mln t (+40.0%), Primorsk - 24.1 mln t (-15.9%), Kaliningrad - 5.6 mln t (-9.9%).  

Throughput of Azov - Black Sea ports climbed to 6.1 mln t (+13.3%, year-on-year) including 25.8 mln t platforms dry cargo (+20.5%), 50.3 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+10.0%). Port Novorossiysk handled 51.5 mln t (+10.0%), Tuapse - 8.9 mln t (+35.5%), Taman - 4.7 mln t (up 1.6 times), Rostov - 3.6 mln t (+2.0%), Kavkaz - 2.6 mln t (+15.2%), Azov - 1.7 mln t (+30.6%), Yeisk - 1.2 mln t (+35.4%), Taganrog - 1.0 mln t (+18.1%).

The ports of the Caspian Basin handled 3.2 mln t of cargo (-6.4%) including 1.1 mln t of dry cargo (-10.1%), 2.1 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (-4.3%). Throughput of port Makhachkala declined by 4.6%, Astrakhan – by 5.7%, Olya – by 41.5%.

The ports of the Caspian Basin handled 66.3 mln t of cargo (+12.9%) including 38.8 mln t of dry cargo (+17.0%), 27.5 mln t of liquid bulk cargo (+7.7%). Port Vostochny handled 23.0 mln t of cargo (+13.8%), Vanino - 10.6 mln t (+9.3%), Nakhodka - 8.7 mln t (+13.5%), Prigorodnoye - 7.2 mln t (+0.7%), Vladivostok - 6.4 mln t (+12.3%), De-Castri - 3.3 mln t (+20.8%), Posiet - 3.2 mln t (+43.3%).

Association of Commercial Sea Ports (ASOP) set up in 1987 unites over 50 organizations and enterprises of Russia’s maritime transport. ASOP comprises commercial seaports, forwarding and agency companies, scientific research institutes and marine educational institutions. Operational results of Russian port sector are based on statistics reports and cover all stevedoring companies operating in the Russian Federation.
