Representatives from Norway’s shipbuilding industry recently gathered in Ålesund for a Dynamic Positioning (DP) sensor technologies workshop held by Sonardyne International Ltd., Guidance Marine and Veripos. Vessel operators, shipyards, dynamic positioning suppliers and system integrators from across the region gathered to discover the latest advances in Position Monitoring Equipment (PME) and discuss the future requirements of the industry, the event organizer said in a press release.
The one day event consisted of presentations from each company, individual hands-on technical sessions on current system usability and a forum that discussed future capability, looking at what the dynamic positioning reference system of the future should be able to achieve.
“This is the third in our series of DP technology seminars with Guidance Marine and Veripos and they continue to be incredibly popular,” said Mark Carter, Sonardyne Global Business Manager – DP and Drilling. “These sessions are providing us with valuable feedback about the performance of current generation systems and opinions on concepts that are emerging from our research and development teams.”
Sonardyne founded in 1971 specializes in the development of underwater acoustic and non-acoustic technology and has nearly 300 employees working worldwid in seven regional centres. The Company's expertise ranges from autonomous undersea networks of wirelessly controlled seabed sensors, monitoring safety critical positioning and control systems around offshore platforms and submerged structures through to the early detection of deadly Tsunami waves that can have such a devastating effect on the world’s coastlines.
