In January-May 2014, Odessa Commercial Sea Port (Ukraine) handled 10.29 mln t of cargo (+15.6%, or 1.39 mln t, year-on-year), the stevedoring company says.
The company attributes the increase to growing transshipment of grain (+ 713,400 t, 140% against January-May 2013), liquid bulk cargo (+ 645,400 t, 137.8%), rolled ferrous metal products (+330,200 t, 124.4%), containers (+28,000 t, 105.5%).
in the 5-month period, transshipment of ore fell by 190,300 t (84.3% against January-May 2013), other loose cargo – by 119,300 t (49.2%).
Container transshipment declined by 10.8 %.
Odessa Commercial Sea Port operates in one of the largest ports of the Black-Azov Sea Basin. Technical facilities of the port allow handling of more than 14 million tonnes of dry cargoes and 24 million tonnes of liquid cargoes annually. The port’s passenger terminal accepts vessels of up to 300 meters in length. In 2013, throughput of Odessa Commercial Sea Port fell by 5.3%, year-on-year, to 23.1 mln tonnes.
