COSCO (Guangdong) Shipyard on June 16 held a keel-laying ceremony for an 8,000 hp Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessel (AHTS), being built for the domestic Chinese owner, China Oilfield Services Ltd (COSL), the shipbuilder said Thursday in a press release.
This is the second AHTS COSCO (Guangdong) has undertaken to build for the buyer. Representatives from China Maritime Safety Administration (China MSA), China Classification Society (CCS), COSL supervision team and COSCO (Guangdong) project team co-witnessed the moment.
Classed by CCS, the vessel measures 73.8 metres in LOA, 16 metres in breadth, and 7.4 metres in depth, with a design draft of 4.8 metres, a maximum loading capacity of 2,150 tonnes and can accommodate 100 people. It is designed to transport equipment and materials to offshore platforms as well as to perform rescue and guard duty in deep and general waters.
At present, COSCO (Guangdong) is working closely with the buyer's supervision team to carry forward the pre-outfitting, coating and fabrication of the annular blocks to save time for the commissioning works after launching.
The keel-laying for the first AHTS was held on May 26.
