Yakutia to build and upgrade 160 vessels

Yakutia is going to build and upgrade 160 vessels including transit cargo fleet and sea-and-river-going ships for the Lena Basin, press center of the Yakutia Government says.

Besides, reconstruction and modernization of Zhatai shipyard is planned.

State measures are to be considered to support cargo transportation by inland water ways to the Arctic regions of Yakutia under the programme on supply of goods to northern Russia.

The development of inland water transport infrastructure will be primarily aimed at the improvement of Lena Basin waterways’ quality.

Further development of the Northern Sea Route will require recovery of the shore infrastructure, revival of Tiksi and Zeleny Mys seaports as well as river port Nizhneyansk as transshipment points in the Eastern Arctic.

Implementation of the large-scale projects in the southern Yakutia is not possible without the construction of transport infrastructure supported with the state measures.
