MTH and Murmansk Sea Fishing Port to build up concept for development of Murmansk – Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky container line

Managing company Murmansk Transportation Hub together with Murmansk Sea Fishing Port OJSC will build up a concept for the development of a container line between Murmansk and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The concept should foresee an industrial zone based on the port’s production facilities.  This task was set following the meeting dedicated to arranging of fish supply from the Far East region to the European part of Russia along the Northern Sea Route via the port of Murmansk. The discussion initiated by the Murmansk Region Government and held in Murmansk was chaired by Vladimir Sokolov, deputy head of the Federal Fishery Agency.

Following the discussion it was decided to determine the interested enterprises willing to supply their fish products by the Northern Sea Route; to look into possible sale of the Far East fish products via the wholesale enterprises of Murmansk; to determine the volume of supplied fish which the port of Murmansk can handle; to explore the issue of concentration of the port’s material and technical resources for immediate unloading of refrigerated fish transport, to prepare operating schedules for refrigerator ships and icebreakers to avoid individual icebreaking and ensure lower icebreaking rates.

Fish products are to be delivered both from the Far East to Murmansk and back (to supply Kamchatka and Magadan regions).

According to Aleksei Tyukavin, fish product delivery by the Northern Sea Route means a reduced time of transportation, hence the reduction of the product cost. Well developed infrastructure, sufficient storage and refrigerating facilities are available at the fishing port of Murmansk to implement this project.
