On May 7, 2015, Zelenodolsk Plant named after M. Gorky laid down the ninth serial anti-terror boat of 21980 project, the shipyard says.
The main purpose of the series designed by Vympel Design Bureau OJSC (Nizhni Novgorod) is to defend basing sites of the Russian Navy.
Basic characteristics of Project 21980 special-purpose boat: Displacement: 138 t; Dimensions: length – 31 m, beam – 7.4 m, draft – 1.85 m: Full speed: 23 knots; Operating range: 200 miles; Endurance: 5 days; Crew: 8.
Armament: Igla SAM system, 14.5-mm pedestal machine gun mount, DP-65A counter-terror grenade launcher, DP-64 grenade launcher.
Radioelectronics: MR-231 navigation radar, MT-201 optoelectronic observation system, Calmar sonar, Anapa counter-terror dipping sonar.
Besides, diving facilities are availabille onboard the craft.
Grachonok-class special-purpose boats of Project 21980 have been built for RF Navy by Zelenodolsk Shipyard from 2008. The year of 2014 saw successful official trials of the sixth and the seventh boats of the series, 3 months and 13 months ahead of schedule. As of today, seven Grachonok-class boats carry out combat alert mission within RF Navy. The eighth boat of project 21980 was laid down on January 12, 2015.
