St. Petersburg, Russia based Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard (part of United Shipbuilding Corporation) on Friday, July 17 launched the first vessel in a series of R1650 "Rondo" class fast patrol cutters being built for the Russian FSB Border Service, the shipbuilding company said Friday in a press release.
The multipurpose fast patrol cutter of R1650 series with displacement of 27 tonnes will perform different tasks including patrol and inspection in designated areas, delivery of personnel to / from inspected ships, transport of personnel and cargo, rescue people in coastal areas.
The steel hull of project R1650 enables fast patrol cutter to operate in brash ice waters while the composite cabin and deck significantly reduce the overall weight and draft, which allows the boat to sail in shallow waters as well.
The ship with the crew of 3 people can accommodate up to nine passengers. The boat maximum speed is 19 knots at maximum power of main engines (40 km / h), full speed cruising range - 220 miles, cruising range at lower speed (10 knots) - 500 miles. Endurance with the 3 crew is 15 days, with 12 personnel - 5 days.
After launching the boat will start dock-side / sea trials and then will be delivered to the customer.
