In January 2016, the port of Rostov-on-Don handed 664,000 t of cargo (+15.6%, year-on-year), Harbour Master Pavel Zakharchenko told IAA PortNews.
Transshipment of crude and oil products climbed by 23.8% to 230,000 t, grain – by 14.6% to 184,000 t, non-grain bulk cargo - by 59.9% to 71,000 t, liquid bulk food – by 8.8% to 40,000 t, general cargo – by 42.8% to 38,000 t. The decrease was registered in transshipment of coal and coke – by 5.9% to 56,000 and metal scrap – by 18.2% to 42,000 t.
In the reported period, loading increased by 18.7% to 642,000 t; unloading – fell by 34.5% to 22,000 t; no operations with transit cargo was held in Jan'16, neither in Jan'15.
In the reported period, the number of incoming/outgoing vessels increased to 167/169 against 152/137 a year ago.
Bunkering at the port of Rostov-on-Don dropped by 30.7% to 5,700 t.
The Harbour Master attributed the general decrease to the reduction of transit cargo handling by 33.7%, year-on-year.
“Apart from favorable weather and ice conditions the growth was driven by the port’s increased exports – up 18.7%, year-on-year. Total turnover of vessels in Jan'16 climbed 23.4%, year-on-year”, Pavel Zakharchenko explained.
