RF Defence Ministry has integrated the resources of 95 civil vessels with total capacity exceeding 1 mln t and 6 seaports for logistic purposes in the Arctic, press center of RF Defence Ministry cites Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu as saying at the meeting of the Ministry’s Board. He reminded that in April 2016 RF President gave instructions to create a principally new transport system for guaranteed and economically efficient support of Defence Ministry’s facilities via the Arctic sea routes and the Kurils.
A consortium established for that purpose includes Oboronlogistika LLC, Sovfracht and FESCO. In the nearest future the consortium is to develop and to introduce a unified tariff policy for transport services within the area of responsibility. In June Oboronlogistika signed agreements on cooperation with Gazprom Fleet and Arkhangelsk Region Government. Special measures are undertaken to manage the consolidated resources.
In this context the Minister said that “locations have been defined for an integrated logistics center and its subdivisions”.
The center will be located in Moscow while its North-Western and Far Eastern departments will be located in Arkhangelsk and Vladivostok accordingly.
“I would like to emphasize that in order to protect national interests the Ministry of Defence creates conditions for large scale development of both the Arctic zone and the Kuril Islands,” said Sergey Shoigu.
According to him, it is highly important to ensure prompt supplies to the army in this remote area with severe climate.
