IALA (International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities) has established a working group to develop suggestions and recommendations to harmonize vessel traffic management activities in different countries of the Baltic Sea and create a single ship reporting system, says press center of Freeport of Riga Authority.
International shipping requires that ships arriving to ports or crossing the territorial waters shall provide the national competent authorities with information the ship, cargo and stores. Such requirements are to ensure the safety of navigation but currently each country develops its own requirements. In the Baltic Sea, where ship traffic is very intense different requirements significantly complicate the work of sailors. Unified system is aimed at facilitating the work of sailors, raise QMS operator work efficiency, and improve the safety of navigation in the Baltic Sea region, says the statement.
