Odfjell Terminals Rotterdam to expand jetty capacity
Odfjell Terminals Rotterdam has announced that it will be expanding its jetty capacity. It will undertake this project in close collaboration with the Port of Rotterdam Authority. Odfjell will be extending and reinforcing its existing jetty so that it can accommodate vessels in the LR2 (Large Range 2) size range – with a maximum deadweight of 160,000 DWT. This allows the terminal to offer existing and new clients new options to efficiently transport and store products, the company said in its press release.
To ensure that this category of large vessels can access Derde Petroleumhaven – where the Odfjell facility is located – the Port of Rotterdam Authority will be deepening the port basin to a depth of approximately 15 metres. This joint investment by Odfjell and the Port of Rotterdam Authority is intended to attract additional storage and handling business and expand the existing range of services.
Managing Director Erik Kleine of Odfjell Terminals Rotterdam: “We have actively responded to our clients’ call for handling facilities for larger and larger vessels. We sincerely appreciate the Port Authority’s decision to contribute by deepening the port basin.”
“The expansion is in line with our policy to revitalise the Botlek area. That is why Rijkswaterstaat and the Port Authority will also be deepening Nieuwe Waterweg this year,” says Ronald Paul, COO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority.
Odfjell expects to take the upgraded jetty into use in the final quarter of 2018.
