In January-May 2017, the port of Ventspils handled 8.380 million tonnes of cargo (-22%, year-on-year), the port authority told IAA PortNews.
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 17% to 4.814 million tonnes, dry bulk cargo – down 38% to 2.427 million tonnes, general cargo – up 11% to 1.139 million tonnes.
The port’s container throughput totaled 1,962 TEUs (no containers were handled in the same period of the previous year). Turnover of passengers grew by 9% to 79,108. The number of calls was flat year-on-year at 646 units.
Ventspils port is located near Venta river. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and Ro-Ro trailers. In 2017, the port handled 20 million tonnes of cargo.
