Baku International Sea Trade Port launches two new tugboats

Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC says it has launched two new tugboats, Alat and SilkWay.

The tugboats have been manufactured by Turkish company Loyd Shipyard.

"These vessels are going to be utilized as tugboats during rescue operations, fire fighting, etc.," Safarli-Abdullazade said. “The vessels have been equipped with the most innovative radar installations and meet modern standards."

“The total capacity of the ‘Alat’ vessel is 56 tons, while ‘SilkWay’ vessel - 82 tons,” she said. “The maximum speed of vessels reaches 10 knots. After launching the tugboats, their total number reached seven. In total, there are 12 vessels in the Baku International Sea Trade Port."

“If in the future there is a need for additional tugboats, the procurement of them will be considered,” Safarli-Abdullazade said.

The cargo transshipment potential of the port, which opened on May 14, 2018, is 15 million tons in the first phase, including 100,000 containers per year.

Seven berths serve dry cargo vessels, two berths serve ferries, and other two berths serve vessels of Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax type. Another berth is used for the maintenance of the fleet of the port.
