Recovery of vessel traffic in Tushino, Moscow Canal, postponed again causing ship owners’ losses

Recovery of vessel traffic in Tushino, between Locks NoNo 7, 8 on the Moscow Canal, has been postponed again. According to the Moscow Canal, the emergency repair works were to be completed by on 20 June 2019 but the traffic of vessels has not been allowed yet.

As IAA PortNews was informed by the source familiar with the situation the delay should be attributed to a new leakage in the Tushino tunnel.

A number of vessels loaded with cargo bound for Kolomna port were waiting for the traffic to resume. Supplies to Yuzhny river port are also impossible as well as leisure tours between the north and the center of Moscow.

According to comments of Konstantin Anisimov, Vice-President of the Russian Chamber of Shipping, ship owners incur high losses with the situation expected to worsen due to low water on the Volga and Oka rivers.

As it was reported earlier, vessels traffic was closed after the soil failure near the Tushino tunnel in the beginning of the year.
