Navigation season of 2019 closed on the main route of Volga-Baltic waterway
Navigation season of 2019 has been closed on the main route of the Volga-Baltic waterway with navigation continued in the Kaliningrad Region and on the Ladoga Lake, say press center of Rosmorrechflot (Federal Marine and River Transport Agency).
The first ships passed under the bridges of Saint-Petersburg on 15 April with locking of transit ships completed on 19 November 2019.
2,182 floating and 2,390 onshore aids to navigation were in service in the season of 2019.
In the reporting period, 35,095 locking operations were performed with 62,162 ships conveyed through the lock.
The navigation period featured good water level excluding the Ladoga lake.
The number of voyages on the Volga-Baltic waterway during the navigation season of 2019 totaled 19,500 with cargo turnover totaling 15.8 million tonnes and passenger turnover – 349,000 passengers. In 2019, Saint-Petersburg was visited by over 95,000 tourists who arrived by cruise ships.
