Throughput of Archangelsk port up 6% to 2.6 mln t in H1 08
In January-June, 2008, the port of Archangelsk handled 2.557.5 million tonnes of cargo (+6%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from Archangelsk Port Administration. In the reported period, the port’s stevedoring companies accepted 254,800 tonnes of cargo (+11.9%, year-on-year) including 168,690 tonnes of import cargo (17.3%), 86,112 tonnes of coastal trade cargo (-21.8%). Import of containerized cargo amounted to 47,343 tonnes (up 1.8 times year-on-year), machines and equipment 5,886 tonnes (up 4.8 times). Transshipment of incoming coastal trade containers fell by 28.4% to 1,889 tonnes, ferrous metal – 1,857 tonnes (this type of cargo was not handled in January-June 2007). Transshipment of other general cargo totaled 78,495 tonnes (+7.3).
In January-June 2008, the port of Archangelsk shipped 2.302.79 million tonnes of cargo (+24.5%) including 1.002.16 million tonnes of export cargo (+41.1%, year-on-year) and 1.300.6 million tonnes of coastal trade cargo (-11.9%). Export of containerized cargo fell 43.6%, year-on-year, to 19,416 tonnes, timber – by 5.2% to 281,807 tonnes, cellulose – grew by 35.3% to 53,926 tonnes, paper and cardboard - - grew by 26.7% to 12,812 tonnes.
Dispatched coastal trade crude and oil products amounted to 1.164.9 million tonnes (-8.4%), other general cargo - 77,713 tonnes (-19.1%), containerized cargo - 13,880 tonnes (-72.8%).
Seaport of Archangelsk accepts vessels with a draft of up to 9.2 meters, length of up to 175-200 meters, breadth of up to 30 meters. The port comprises 151 berths with a total length of 17,548 meters, including 31 berths of timber industry companies, 22 berths of sea trade port, 6 berths of the river port, 3 berths of Rosneft-Archangelsknefteproduct OJSC engaged in export of oil and oil products, 2 berths of the fishing port and 87 minor berths of other companies. Archangelsk port is crossed by cargo transit lines from Europe to the states of the Far, Middle and Near East.
