Throughput of Tallinn port down 31.9% to 14.79 mln t in H1 08

In January-June 2008, the port of Tallinn handled 14.790.7 million tonnes of cargo (-31.9%, year-on-year), the port informs.

Transshipment of general cargo amounted to 315,900 tonnes (-28.7%, year-on-year), dry bulk – 1.548.5 million tonnes (-72.8%), liquid bulk cargo – 10.346.7 million tonnes (-20.6%). In the reported period, transshipment of containerized cargo grew by 1.6%, year-on-year, to 88,000 478 TEU, ro-ro cargo – 1.854.2 million tonnes (+4.1%, year-on-year). Transshipment of non-marine cargo fell by 10.7% to 66,300 tonnes.

In the first half of 2008, transshipment of export cargo totaled 1.453.45 million tonnes (+5.16%), import – 1.774.14 million tonnes (+3.02%), transit cargo – 11.494.98 million tonnes (-38.03%).

Commercial Seaport of Tallinn is a large cargo and passenger seaport located at the southern shore of the Tallinn Bay. It was founded in 1219. Tallinn is the third largest port of the Baltic Sea after St. Petersburg and Primorsk. The port consists of 5 port ones: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa.
