Throughput of Port Kavkaz up 9.4%, to 3.3 mln t in H1 08
In January-June, 2008, Port Kavkaz handled 3.270.0 million tonnes of cargo (+9.4%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from Taman branch of RosMorPort FSUE. In the reported period, the port handled 1.858.8 million tonnes of dry cargo (+65%, year-on-year), 1.411.2 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-24.3%).
Port Kavkaz is situated at the border of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov at Kerch Strait from the side of Russia. The port is ice-free, so it is able to handle both river vessels (draft of up to 5 meters) and sea vessels (off-harbor handling of vessels with a draft of up to 11 meters). The territory of the port is crossed by a 2,600-meter long railway line. The port handles loose cargo, as well as general cargo and timber.
