PM approves long-term railway development strategy
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has approved a strategy for the development of railways in Russia until 2030, as well as a plan for the implementation of the strategy in 2008-2015, the government's press office reported today according to RBC. The Russian Transportation Ministry, together with the Economy, Regional Development, and Industry and Trade Ministries, as well as the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service and other concerned government bodies, has been commissioned to make sure that the strategy is implemented.
The program is to be realized in two stages. The first stage includes the modernization of railways in 2008-2015, and the second stage, to be carried out between 2016 and 2030, provides for a dynamic expansion of Russia's railway network.
