Cargo transported by Lithuanian railways up 10% in H1 2008
Over first half-year of year 2008, Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai, the Lithuanian national railroad, transported 28.6 million tonnes of cargo, an increase of 10% from the same period of the preceding year.
According to the data provide by the Statistics Lithuania, the amount of cargo transported via international routes rose 3.5% in January-June 2008 and stood at 21.2 million tonnes, and the amount of domestic cargo advanced 34% and totalled 7.4 million tonnes.
Transit railroad traffic dropped 0.9%, yet still made up the major part (46.7%) of cargo transported via international routes, The Baltic Course reports according to RZD-Partner.
