Freight rates in the North Atlantic fell significantly this year, as container rates in nearly all trade lanes did due to the global economic slowdown. At the same time, ACL said, rising fuel prices and the declining dollar resulted in what the carrier called “an untenable situation.”
Effective Dec. 1, rates in both directions between North Europe and North America will go up $300 per 20-foot equivalent unit and $600 per 40-foot equivalent unit.
After Feb. 1, the second phase will add $250 per TEU and $350 per FEU in both directions.
